Meet Andy Cough.
Andy is the owner of Acadia National Park Tours and the latest in a family that has been part of this park longer than the tours have. His great-grandfather was the caretaker and chauffeur for George B. Dorr, Acadia’s first superintendent. Between 1925 and 1986, three members of the family worked for the National Park Service for a combined 84 years. In 1955, Andy’s grandfather Sonny Cough and his brother Jimmy put that knowledge to work and started Acadia National Park Tours. In the 1970’s, Andy’s uncle, Richard “Dickie” Cough, took the reins and laid the groundwork for what Acadia National Park Tours is today. Andy bought the business from his uncle in 2005.
The vehicles have changed over the years, but the care hasn’t. Andy still believes the best way to see Acadia is from a comfortable seat, large viewing windows, and an experienced guide doing the driving and the talking. You won’t find him in a fleet of identical buses or behind a faceless booking site. You’ll find him prepping the vehicles for the day, making sure the floors are clean and the windows are clear, every day throughout the season.
That history is a lot to live up to, and it’s the standard he holds the company to every day.
